This song is so good. I love the harmonies and the “ooh-wee-oohs.” Not advocating terrorism, but it would make a good premise for a short story if there was a group that vandalized urban sprawl, billboards, and hacked telemarketing hubs, under the moniker “The Village Green Preservation Society.” Kinda like Palahniuk’s “Project Mayhem” or something.
Anyways, back to The Kinks. This song is so good, and most of the rest of this album is good too. Of the two Kinks albums I have (this and Lola Versus Powerman and The Moneygoround, Part One) I think Lola is a stronger album, probably thanks to Wes Anderson’s usage. It’s weird that The Kinks are seemingly unknown to a lot of people. I hate that Napster/Limewire/Kazaa kind of screwed them over too- I think a lot of people think that Lola was The Grateful Dead or something, thanks to mislabeled filesharing. Poor Rupert Holmes. Everyone Thinks that Jimmy Buffet did Escape. Shame Shame.
This Time Tomorrow, Strangers, and Lola are my favorite Kinks songs otherwise so far. I want to get Something Else by The Kinks, but I have no clue what’s on it, I just know its supposed to be good.
Not much to this post- just happened to be listening to The Kinks, and thought they deserved a shout out, and a thank-you.
